THE PHOTOGRAPHER
My name is Stacy Zahn. I was born and raised in Wharton, Texas, a small town about 50 miles south of Houston. Graduated from college at Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas. Growing up I was only accustomed to disposable cameras, remember those? Well, I went through them like candy and finally my freshman year in high school my parents gifted me with a point-in-shoot camera, I was more than stoked and used that thing till it literally stopped working. Then in college, I purchased my first ever DSLR, it was a beginner’s camera, the Nikon D60, and to this day you’ll see me pull out my D60 to shoot with during a session or just when I’m photographing stuff for fun. I love shooting with a variety of cameras, whether it’s a Canon, Sony or Nikon and sometimes I’ll even pull out my go pro. Creativity is limitless and so many things are possible. I like to keep my skills, techniques, and methods of how I go about getting that “perfect shot” as staying diversified as much as possible, which explains why I use an array of cameras when I photograph. I like to think of it as an ecosystem. In order for an ecosystem to be healthy, it needs to have an array of species that inhabit it (diversity) right? In order to survive and compete with the competition out there, my photography needs to be diversified as much as possible. If you haven’t already figured it out, I am also I biology geek and an active conservationist. I currently volunteer with several organizations along the Texas coast from Galveston all the way to Port Aransas. I am also permitted through FWS to handle (for scientific research) the critically endangered Kemps Ridley Sea Turtle. I am an official Texas-Adopt-A-Beach beach adopter through Texas General Land Office Adopt-A-Beach Program, my one-mile increment of land that I manage for cleanups is in Matagorda, Texas at Little Boggy Creek.
